Beach House vs Grizzly Bear

I saw Beach House yesterday at the Roundhouse. They were supporting Grizzly Bear although I don’t think the word ‘supporting’ is appropriate in this case. I have seen Beach House live three times but yesterday they were particularly dreamy. The accoustic at the Roundhouse is pretty good. I don’t know if it’s because I had been drinking cocktails (by Stav) all afternoon at Off Broadway but Beach House were so good and it was so beautiful that I couldn’t stop crying. So much so that I lost both my lenses 20 minutes into the show. The whole evening was hazy.

Anyhow, to come after Beach House is quite a challenge. Grizzly Bear were good but not as penetrating as Beach House. I think I am in love with Victoria Legrand. Not literally of course but her voice is the most beautiful thing I have heard for a long time. She’s got a slightly raucous voice, which together with the dreamy melodies makes the whole experience wistful and haunting.

Beach House is in London again on June 1 @ Heaven. You can book your tickets here, do it quick.

I have to say Edward Droste from the Grizzly Bear is quite enchanting himself. His ghostly vocals are a pure delight. Victoria came back on stage to sing with him. Such a perfect mix.
